In contrast, many role-playing games (RPGs) or interactive fiction, which we’ll cover below, are better for advanced learners because gameplay relies on comprehension of the text. You can note unfamiliar words or phrases while playing to look up later, without getting stuck in the game narrative. For example, you can follow a shooter game (more on those below) without understanding 100% of the text. To start, try playing games that aren’t text-driven. Playing games a bit above your level-but not too much-can actually encourage you to improve. If you’re a beginner German learner, don’t be discouraged if you only understand a little bit of the text or audio in the game at first. The more German you know, the farther you can go and the more decisions you can make in the game story. German computer games in particular have a built-in incentive for you to improve your skills. If I can get Bookworm updated somehow, I will try to post it back here later. ()ġ.13 Windows Vista Compliance 1.03 Bug fixes.
So far I cant seem to update the one installed from the cdrom drive though. I did notice that I am running version 1.03 as I installed from the cdrom, and they have a newer version on the download section of the website (version 1.13) that lists "Vista compliance". That is what I did and so far it hasn't messed up again.
You can also use this wizard to set "Bookworm.exe" in the "Bookworm Deluxe" folder to use compatibility mode for Windows XP and make sure you also check the box for "run as administrator". If you don't see the option they refer to, make sure the control panel is not in "classic view".
(It is under "My CD-ROM wont install under Vista")
Go here for instructions on how to install this way: So far the only thing that worked for me was to uninstall, and reinstall (using compatibility mode on the installer). The strange thing is that the game worked fine for quite some time, and then just started messing up for no real reason. I tried everything I could think of: compatibility mode, run as administrator, unchecked the "read only" box on the "Bookworm Deluxe" folder and applied to all folders and files inside. If you delete these two files, the game will work two more times. If you go to the Bookworm Deluxe folder in "Program Files" you will probably see two files named "game.exe" and "game2.exe" (you will need view hidden files turned on). This happened on my new Vista computer and it seemed to be caused by the game not deleting temporary files after it closed. (most likely C:\Program Files\PopCap Games\BookWorm Deluxe)
Just copy the entire folder to someplace else (like your desktop), uninstall, reinstall, copy folder back to the place you found it. The saved game files are all in the folder named "players" in the game folder. You can back up your saved games and restore them afterward so you wont lose any progress.
